Member of the BEATSEPSIS consortium

Our team has recently become a member of the BEATSEPSIS consortium and got a prestigious European grant within the Horizon Europe project. The BEATSEP project will focus on research into sepsis and septic shock, which affect up to 50 million people worldwide each year and account for nearly 20% of global deaths.

The BEATSEP project is part of the Horizon Europe programme and will focus on the development, treatment and prevention of the long-term consequences of sepsis and its impact on patients’ quality of life. Comprehensive clinical and research data generated during the project will be integrated using artificial intelligence algorithms into an easy-to-use predictive tool capable of identifying patients at highest risk of complications. In addition, the consortium plans to design a tertiary prevention strategy (prevention of stage 3 to 4 disease) to help prevent the development of such outcomes.

Expertise and experience in clinical data, statistics and data management are essential to the project, which is why we were approached by the CMI-ICRC research team to work with them. Our team now has a unique opportunity to contribute to the success of this project and help improve the diagnosis and treatment of sepsis.

Biostatistics is a member of the ICRC-FNUSA coordinating team, which includes the CMI (Cellular and Molecular Immunoregulation) team and the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at MUNI. The BEATsep project will involve a total of 9 partners from renowned European research and clinical institutions and 1 commercial partner in 6 EU countries. The project is an example of an innovative and successful combination of translational and clinical research, the expertise of several international scientists and collaboration between hospitals, universities and other scientific institutions.
